Spent the weekend in Tromso, Norway, up there in the Arctic Circle...& I know I have never been that far North before. I knew I was in for something different when I checked the weather. In London it was a comfortable 65F degrees, but the weather report for Tromso was 4C degrees...shit that Down Jacket had to come out.
So my main reason for being here, there...which one do I use...fuck it I will use there. So my main reason for being up in Tromso was to see my work in the new store
UNDER. I had sent 20 of my favourite photo’s of Nike’s to them for what was originally going to be a Photo Exhibition, but then turned out to be a massive Vinyl sticker of all 20 pictures...nearly 4m wide & 3m high...& it looked really damn good. Well done Mr Martinsen.
So there was a small little gathering at the store for about 30 people...which in this town is a lot...there are 40000 people that live up here so you can work that one out. A few beers later & we are motoring over to Kino, which was the bar where they had organised a party & Mr James Young & Positive was my travel companion with the main aim of playing at this party as well as getting to know the UNDER crew a little better...you see Mr Y&P is a major player at
ADDICT & he had just opened business with UNDER...I know I digress.
Now the whole time this is all going on the light outside never changes. When I checked the time & it was 11.30 the sun was still up there...and it only got a tad darker at 2.00am when I broke out & went to my room.
As I sat there and looked at the incredible view, I thought of Al Pacino in Insomnia, & how as the days progressed the less & less he could sleep. I hoped that that would not happen to me...but it kind of did. Being light all the time is a motherfucker, you head tells you it is day, but your body is saying get me some sleep...& the battle between the 2 commences...I did get some sleep for sure, but it was weird as they felt like disco naps & I have been up for 3 days, drinking way too much beer.
There are watering holes all over the place here in this little Town & they love a Burger, everywhere you go their special was a burger, served some way that was a little different to the next spot. Too funny, but the Burgers were good. But I will tell you something I could so do a curry.
All in all a good time was had by all, met some excellent people, & even had a funny chat with a young lady regarding some latin terms she was throwing around. Very funny, as I even taught her a few more...& I discovered a new hero to add to my list, but that is another story all together.
Be Well.
